At MOG, we carefully select appliances we use and recommend based on almost 40 years of experience and the excellent ongoing education and research in the orthodontic industry.
The tables below allow a quick comparison between traditional ligated braces (no longer used at MOG), the Damon bracket system – both in clear and metal brackets, and clear aligners. Click to learn more about either the Damon or clear aligner options.
When you visit us for your consultation appointment we will demonstrate the benefits of the systems that we use and recommend to help you decide which is most appropriate for your needs.
That's the benefit of choosing a specialist orthodontist. We have a range of choices to ensure your outcome is the best result in the shortest time possible.
Important considerations when selecting an orthodontic treatment plan
-
Patient Comfort
At MOG we prefer the Damon bracket system. The design is very streamlined and the self ligating nature allows for more comfortable and gentle tooth movement.
Ask us to demonstrate the difference at your consultation.
-
Hygiene and compliance
The best way to straighten your teeth is when we don't rely on you remembering to wear your appliance, or possibly losing it somewhere, or finding the dog ate it!
Removable appliances are the best for oral hygiene but the worst for compliance.
The smaller profile damon brackets we use are quite easy to keep clean as well as doing all the work for you.
-
Aesthetics & lifestyle considerations
Many people prefer the almost invisible nature of clear removable aligners. However, they are not suitable for all treatment needs.
The Damon Clear system has an option for discreet ceramic brackets if aligners are not an option.
Comparing systems
Take a look at the table below, we have broken down the main comparison points between the different options.
Note that at MOG we do not use traditional braces with the coloured bands - when you visit us we can explain why we prefer the more gentle Damon system - they don't give you the choice of fun colours but the trade-off in increased comfort is worth it as far as we are concerned!
