It is so interesting to feel (and see) the movements in my teeth. When the wire was fitted it was surprisingly crooked as it wove it’s way through the brackets that Dr Levinson had placed. Now just a few weeks later, the wire is almost a perfect straight line.
Because of the movement away from the natural positions they have held for…well let’s not go in to how many years exactly but just say a while…a few of my teeth bump a little differently against the lower teeth, but they are no longer sensitive – only when I brush too hard, but I am using the new brush that I was given – a really small child’s brush – it is great! It fits much better into the space between the wire and the gum so that you feel you are really getting in there.
I have however, developed a bad habit of playing with/wiggling my front tooth….the one that has the most movement to do is quite wobbly and when I push my lower teeth into it I can feel it wobble back and forward. But it has become a bit of a subconscious thing I do when I am thinking….just because I can! I’m sure that it is not a good thing to do…
The fact that as your teeth move they are going to feel a bit looser for a while makes perfect sense, but it is really not something that you think about until you feel it. In a later post I will explain (in very basic terms) the physiology behind tooth movement…the human body is really quite fascinating.
Eating is no problem whatsoever. Once you get used to the slight tugging feeling when you eat into something, you stop panicking about it and realize as long as you are sensible and don’t chomp down into hard or sticky food it will all be good. I use the back surface of my molars much more than I used to that’s for sure!
Those hooks that seemed so enormous on my back teeth when my braces were first fitted are barely noticeable and I don’t feel the need to wear the wax as often, really only for a day in the office or a night out with friends when those cheeks will get a really good workout. Other than that, regular life has not changed too much for me, and as long as I am careful about what I eat and how I eat it, it is really no inconvenience.
