Adult Braces Journey – Magic Wax

Oh my goodness!!!!  Well let me just say that there are absolutely NO elegant ways to apply wax to your teeth…none!

You take a blob of wax, about the size of a pea, and roll it around to soften it a little, then flatten it just a bit and hope it sticks to your finger.  You then pull your cheek out and suck in some air to ‘dry’ the tooth and dive in…

Your finger and thumb both have to get in there (not easy when the cheek is ulcerated already I can tell you!) and squeeze the wax onto/around the bracket so that it stays.  It did take a few attempts to get it right, but the relief is worth it!  There is no easy way to instruct somebody on how to do this…you really just have to play around and work it out for yourself depending on your needs.

Just don’t try and do it in public, and don’t put your lipstick on first!!!

So I got through the day, loving the magic wax, and as long as I didn’t eat or drink anything to risk dislodging it, it stayed in place and I did not have to try and do it again…now to get through dinner.  I ended up swallowing some wax with dinner, but it’s non toxic so I was not too perturbed by that.

I was a little concerned about sleeping with it on…what if it dislodged in the night and I choked on it…well naturally it didn’t because there was not enough movement to dislodge it, and I woke up to find my cheeks felt much better.  However, my teeth felt a little more tender as the wire was doing it’s job of pulling them into place.

But on a scale of 1-5 (5 being agony pass me the panadeine forte), I would give it a 2 ½ .  Bruised feeling, slight discomfort to eat certain foods and with the pressure of brushing but otherwise totally bearable and not the constant pain of which I have heard others complain…maybe I am just lucky 🙂
