It’s here at the business end of the journey that the technical eye of a specialist practitioner amazes me! These guys can pick the teeniest tiniest adjustment required from 20 paces…OK well maybe they need a closer look than that, but what looks like a two thumbs up from me still needs adjusting to a professional.
Even my fellow co-workers keen eyes can spot a slightly slanting pearly white in the midst of animated conversation.
Co-worker: Ohhhh…I haven’t seen you for a couple of weeks, your teeth have moved so much they’re looking great!
Me: Really? They look different to a few weeks ago?
Co-worker: Yeah (with an expression that says Duh…) you’re nearly there.
To me, visually the most amazing thing was dealing with the front upper teeth crossover, and one or two other little things that annoyed me in photos and when I talked on Skype and saw how I looked in the video screen (really…that’s what I look like to other people when I talk…ohhhh…sad face!).
Now those things appear to be fixed (to my eye) but the fact is that I have invested 15 months of treatment time already, and waiting a tiny bit longer for the last tweaks of ‘perfection’ are so totally worth it. I know that when these braces come off those few last adjustments to teeth that I didn’t even know needed moving will be worth every extra week – and quite honestly I can’t wait!
I’m one of those people who when going for a bike ride tells herself she will pedal to the top of the hill, but gives up about 10 meters short – well I nearly made it….something in my brain tells me I did well enough and I can rest now! It’s a bit the same here with the braces. I am so darned close to the end, and it is the most agonizing wait EVER….but I know that every little tweak now is putting the finishing touches to what will be my ‘look’ for the next 30 years…TOTALLY worth it!
