Disclotabs are harmless food dye that can be used to identify any plaque that may be on your teeth.
They can be used before brushing to highlight the plaque that you are required to remove when you brush your teeth or you can use them after brushing to check that all the plaque has been removed.
Disclotabs will also highlight the presence of food debris. Removing food debris is as important as removing plaque when you have braces on your teeth (and even when you don’t!)
Instructions for use
- Munch on a tablet with your back teeth until it is completely dissolved.
- Swish the pink dye around your mouth with your tongue.
- Make sure it reaches all of the surfaces of your teeth before rinsing with water.
You can now see if there is any plaque or food debris on your teeth as it will be stained either red or blue. Red stain is new plaque, and blue stain is older plaque that you might have missed.
Look carefully for the colour – it is usually found along the gum line and around the braces. Check your back teeth as well.
If you find any plaque, brush again until all of the coloured stains are removed.
Your gums will retain a harmless pink hue for an hour or so – you can ignore this.
That’s about it. Disclosing tablets are a simple and easy way to check your cleaning – why not get into the habit of using them regularly. They are available at your local pharmacy in both tablet and liquid forms.
