Listen to what your orthodontist and auxiliary tell you…
It is really really really important that you follow the instructions we give you about caring for your teeth and braces.
You are going through the discomfort and let’s be honest, braces are a costly investment. So if you want the best possible result listen to what the EXPERTS tell you to do!
Oh sure, your buddies might say they chew gum or eat chocolate bars, but they’re just lucky if they have not done any damage to their braces…yet…We can tell from any damage to your brackets or wires when you have been naughty.
You will receive a set of instructions, and various other things that should help you on your way, the most important thing to remember is that if you disregard our instructions, you may lengthen your treatment time, incur additional costs for broken brackets, and even jeopardize the results ~ now why would you want to do that?
Regular visits
If your treatment involves braces we usually fit top and bottom braces at separate appointments as that gives your mouth time to adjust to the changes, or we may need to do some early movement works to allow for the full treatment program. But it will depend on your circumstances and treatment plan.
Then we will need to see you for regular visits to adjust your braces, change your archwires and just to check that you are brushing properly and looking after your mouth!
Later in your treatment plan you may have TADs inserted, buttons added, or elastics fitted. But that is for another information series! This is simply an introduction to the first early stages of treatment to hopefully help your transition into the world of orthodontics, as either a parent or orthodontic wearer.
That about wraps it up
So that’s all there is to it when you start on your braces journey…it’s not that hard, we do all the work, but you have to co-operate, stay alert, and ask questions.
The more you understand about what we recommend and why, the more comfortable you will be with your treatment plan and your orthodontist, and the better the whole experience will be for your family!
But remember, we are always accessible if you have questions or concerns – pick up the phone or send an email.
The only ‘silly’ question is a question not asked that you end up worrying unnecessarily about!
That’s it, it’s no big secret really, just common sense and good communication!
Here’s to your stress free smile!
