Ticklish teeth
Everybody experiences the feeling of braces differently. But there is no doubting that the sensations in your mouth are strange for a while.
Every time I have a wire change, for the first few days my front teeth (and this will sound strange) feel like they are being tickled. I experience a really strange sensation that makes you just want to give them a good brush or clench them together really tightly.
This only lasts a few days, but is a strange sensation indeed.
Poking Wires
I have had the current wire in place for about 3 weeks and everything has settled down and is very comfortable again, then suddenly I have the sensation that my left cheek is catching quite often on the back bracket. I mentioned it to Darren, one of our Auxiliaries who suggested that I may have a ‘distal wire’.
That is a great thing because it means my teeth are moving into position. The brackets are designed to allow the wire to slide as the teeth move, which means that the wires will extend past the back brackets if the movement is in a certain direction.
That wire felt huge – like there must have been at least half a centimeter of wire sticking out…Darren showed me what he clipped out…it was lucky if it was half a millimeter long! How funny!
My teeth must have really been on the move, as it was only 3 days before I was complaining again! Another snip, problem solved, and again the offending wire was a measly speck on the tray. But hurrah for my tooth movement and progression towards a better bite.
